Coastal walk from Bondi to Coogee
Impressive cliffs rising from the Pacific Ocean and inlets hiding beautiful sandy beaches. Sydney’s coast line is a worthwhile attraction in itself, where lush green parks and the majestic city skyline compete for beauty. To explore this region at a leisurely pace, take some time and set out on a coastal walk.
Walking across the cliffs
The walk begins at the end of Campbell Parade, the boulevard along Bondi Beach where sandstone steps take you up towards Tamarama Beach. This small attractive beach is a favourite destination among Australia's high society – slim fashion models, movie stars and tanned millionaires sunbathe side by side. Because of all this glitz, Sydney locals also call this beach 'Glamarama Beach'. A few hundred metres away is Bronte Beach, a quiet and small beach popular with young families. The sea can be pretty rough, but young swimmers can play safely in the lagoon's manmade pool, protected by rocks from the pounding waves. This area is also known for its excellent eateries. Taste freshly baked French croissants or indulge in homemade Italian ice cream.
Waverly Cemetery, Clovelly and Coogee
The next stop along the way is Waverley Cemetery, perhaps one of the most beautiful cemeteries in the world. Walk through the lush green Burrows Park to reach Clovelly Beach. This beach attracts snorkellers and divers who come to explore Gordon's Bay underwater Nature Trail, a 500-metre chain that guides divers along reefs, sand plains and kelp forests. Continue a little further south to reach the impressive Coogee Beach with its wide sandy beach, the final destination on this walk. Hungry hikers may use the electric barbecues available on the beach to conclude their day with a typical Australian 'barbie on the beach'.
